The Update: Water and My Baby
Keeping an active internal discussion about the things that interest us at Geocene builds trust and makes it easier to have conversations about harder topics. I summarize our most interesting internal discussions for this newsletter, so you can be a part of our community too. I’d love to hear your thoughts!
- Villages in rural Kenya rely on water wells, but it can be a challenge for the local population to communicate when the wells break. Unfortunately, they break often. Half the water wells in some African countries break within in a few years. We worked on a project with Virridy (which was called SweetSense at the time) and IBM to build an Iridium based water well monitoring platform. The Iridium satellite communications network is ultra reliable but fairly expensive, so we also built cellular and Swarm satellite versions of the sensor. The Swarm version was the first ever commercial integration of a Swarm modem! Now, when a pump breaks, a dashboard shows the issue and maintenance can be dispatched.
- Meet Rose Wilson, my new baby girl! She was born at 9:24pm on May 24 at 5lb 6oz. We’re all doing great over here at the Wilson home, and we’re so in love.
- I’m on paternity leave, so this is a brief update. See you next month!
