In 2022 Sofar Ocean Technologies came to Geocene because they saw an opportunity. Their satellite-connected buoys are collecting critical data all across the ocean.
Unfortunately, the satellite bills were enormous. Such costs are worth it in the middle of the sea. Near the shore? That's a different story. There are cell towers along the coast all over the world that could deliver even more data at a fraction of the cost of the satellites.
The Sofar Spotter Buoy is a complex and functional device. So how could Sofar's team quickly validate and deploy a cellular version?
Geocene and Sofar held some calls. We discussed the project requirements and settled on the Blues cellular connectivity solution. The Blues solution looked great. Their documentation was fantastic.
But it was bold: Blues was new. This project would be one of the first Blues commercial deployments anywhere.
It worked! We embedded a Blues Notecard in SoFar's PCB. Then, we connected their firmware and cloud services to the Blues Notehub. Two months later, they had cellular buoys. A couple of months after that, they were deployed in the ocean. Simple as that.
We're device experts. We can handle most communication methods, including those that simplify your life, like Blues.
We've done this before, and we'll save you time and money by doing it right.
